Why get involved Now
Getting involved early has advantages. First, there is the cost savings to you of only $40/month instead of the regular membership fee of $50. Early involvement could get you a regional rep position which can reduce your membership by 50%. You could also put your name in for the executive office positions. Also, there is a whole bunch of cooperative bylaws to establish, early involvement means early influence. The founders do not make all the rules, we make rules that guide the direction of the cooperative, the membership makes the rules and the laws which will govern life aboard the space habitat.
Why we chose a Cooperative
Fundamentally, the coop concept was to overcome the issue of real estate laws in many countries. As we pursued this avenue, many other benefits emerged:
1) One legal entity, one vote. No-one can dominate the decision making by buying a greater equity.
2) Our labor portion of the Coop allows us to keep our membership involved.
3) No SEC/securities involvement in sale of a membership.
4) All the benefits of a public corp. without the headache.
5) Governance is better in that anyone can represent the Coop on the board.
6) Technically a cooperative is the truest democracy in that it is a real one person one vote structure. Our habitat governance will be a technocracy.

Who are we looking for?
Everyone! A project of this magnitude and the potential for a colony requires a lot of people with a diverse skill set. A doctor, engineer, tradesman, artist, teacher, craftsman .... it doesn't matter, we need you. There will be opportunity for you to retrain if you are so inclined. Check here often to see if you can help with a specific skill set we have in demand. Here is an example of how YOU can help. This web site is not the prettiest nor the most functional, but it serves the purpose. So you're a web programmer in your spare time, perfect, that could easily be your 10hour/month membership labor contribution. |
