Space Mining

5/5/2012

There is a lot of hype in the media about a hand full of Billionaires trying their hand at space mining. Planetary Resources is perhaps the best funded attempt at extracting minerals from asteroids but it is certainly not the first. The idea of space mining dates back to the early science fiction writers. There are many groups that have expressed interest and desire to mine the riches of our solar system, ourselves included.

Planetary Resources plans a multi step approach over the next 10 years or so to eventual mineral extraction. Our plan could have us mining in as little as 5 years once the funding is in place.

The obvious markets that most groups are targeting are most importantly, Water then precious metals (platinum group and REE). Our primary interest is for iron, the foundation of construction. At this stage it is still not known if high value minerals can be returned to Earth economically with sufficient profit margins. Our venture is primarily targeting the future of space development by providing a quality and quantity mineral resource in outer space. The obvious benefits of returning minerals to Earth, if it proves viable, will become a secondary interest to us and a primary means of return on investment for our backers.
